Who is the best candidate for a V45?
Farmers, ranchers and businesses located in windy rural areas with high electrical needs such as irrigation costs, or a small processing factory.

Can I install a V45 at my house?
Not unless you live in a rural area and have a home business which consumes at least 100,000 kWhrs of electricity per year.

How do I know where to put a V45?
There are important considerations which need to be taken into account: predominant wind direction, safety, and obstructions. If you are a farmer or rancher and have wide open land you can place a V45 almost anywhere there is utility power close by. If your business is located near other buildings we can help you locate it appropriately, but prudent safety practice suggests wind turbines should not be located closer than four tower heights from other structures.

Can the V45 be used for off grid operation?
No. The V45 uses an induction generator which is unsuitable for stand alone operation.

How much power can I expect on a monthly basis?
On average you will make 8,333 kWh per month in a class 2 wind site.

What are the maintenance requirements?
The V45 requires maintenance every four years.

What is “net metering”?
Most states have net metering laws which permit the installation of renewable generation devices such as wind turbines and solar panels at the same location where power is also being consumed. The power generated by the renewable device offsets the power consumed by the load. The power company only bills the customer for the net energy, either positive or negative. This is a good deal for the consumer because the power generated is being “credited” at the full retail value. The size of the renewable generation equipment should be such that at the end of the year there is a small energy deficit. Surpluses are usually not credited to your account. Net metering laws are different in each state and some states restrict the size of the generator. In some states the V45 exceeds this limit. See www.dsireusa.org.
